Arsenal v Blackburn

Arsenal v Blackburn

Arsenal 7 – 1 Blackburn Rovers. Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side have garnered a considerable amount of criticism from fans this month of January, much of which has been aimed at Mr Wenger himself. Some sections of fans appear to be losing patience with the Arsenal manager after January's premier league fixtures saw them pick up no points at all. The huge game that was the home fixture against title chasers Manchester United put Arsene Wenger in the spotlight for the wrong reasons after his decision to take off inspirational debutant Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the ineffective Andrei Arshavin led to the Gunners throwing away a hard fought draw with the Gunners going on to lose 1-2. Also, once again fans saw their manager unwilling to open the purse strings and strengthen his squad that still appears to be lacking in depth with no recognised and fit full backs currently and there being a shortage in strikers what with Gervinho being absent through African Cup of Nations duty. Could February be the month where the Gunners' form picks up? On Saturday 4th February 2012, they welcomed struggling Blackburn Rovers to the Emirates who themselves haven't had the greatest of luck for the month of January. Mixed results, continued resentment towards manager Steve Kean and owners Venkys, and prominent defensive figure Christopher Samba expressing his desire to leave during the January transfer window, Blackburn were keen to put the month of January behind them and concentrate on February. Their record against sides in the top seven was surprisingly impressive considering they found themselves in the relegation zone. Blackburn had previously defeated Arsenal 4-3 at Ewood Park and had picked up four points away against Liverpool and Manchester United, the latter being a tremendous 2-3 victory at Old Trafford. WinkBall video reporters headed down to the Emirates Stadium for the match between Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers which in the end finished as a 7-1 thrashing of Blackburn Rovers and piled further pressure on the team and kept them in the relegation zone. Another inspired performance by talismanic captain Robin Van Persie, where the Dutch striker got a hat-trick. The stand out performance however came from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain where he grabbed two goals himself and gave the Rovers defence a torrid time. Reporters asked Arsenal fans what competition they should be focusing more on as a team; with the F.A. Cup still a potential, is this a more realistic aim for the Gunners or should they focus their efforts on reaching the top four? Also, with Wenger facing growing criticism, do they still have faith in their boss or is it perhaps time for a change? Speaking to Blackburn Rovers fans, reporters asked them about the Christopher Samba saga, with the defender expressing his desire to leave, what were their thoughts on the issue? Also, do they think manager Steve Kean has faced tough criticism and been treated fairly and can they see a prosperous future for the club under current owners Venkys?
