Africa Oye is the UK’s largest African music and culture festival. Starting life in 1992 as a series of street events around Liverpool , the public demand grew and in 2002 it was held in Sefton Park where it has been ever since. Africa Oye seeks to highlight the varied range of music, artists, foods and culture of this great continent. Africa Oye truly is an inspirational festival that embraces multi-culturalism and tolerance. It is taking place over the 18th and 19th July 2011 with the added bonus of free entry to the public with a range of family friendly activities on offer it really is a unique experience. Saturday’s line up boasts The Gangbe Brass Band from Benin, Cameroon’s Kayrece Fotso, Miriem Hassan from Western Sahara, Angola’s Bonga, Fatoumata Diawara from Mali and the undisputed Queen of Reggae Jamaica’s very own Marcia Griffiths. WinkBall reporters were down at Sefton Park to mingle with the crowd and see just what it is that makes this festival so special.
