On Thursday 16th February, M83 performance at Shepherd Bush Empire brought a whole new meaning to electronic music and WinkBall was there to capture the excitement and passion of fans. Named after the spiral galaxy “Messier 83”, M83 is a French electronic music project of Anthony Gonzalez and mostly influenced by shoegazing. In that M83 is mostly based on tonality, extensive use of reverb effects and often softly spoken lyrics at times submerged in instrumentation. This genre of music was an alternative rock that emerged from the UK in the late 1980s. M83 was formed in 2001 but became more noticeable after their third album ‘Before The Dawn Heals US’ in 2005. After 2005, M83 toured with Kings of Leon in 2008, The Killers and Depeche Mode in 2009. Their current single ‘Midnight City’ was the sound of the night.
