Who should be the next England Manager?

England 2 – 3 Holland Despite this being to many your run of the mill International friendly, the game at Wembley Stadium between England and Holland had dominated headlines for reasons that weren’t necessarily to do with the players that would be on the team sheet come kick off. With the sudden and shock resignation of former England manager Fabio Capello, there has been a great deal of media attention surrounding the F.A’s search for a new England manager. A number of potential candidates have been mentioned through the press, the fans and even the players with public opinion spiralling towards Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp as the number one choice for the big job. Now over a month since Capello has left, the position of England coach remains vacant with England under 21s boss Stuart Pearce coming in as England manager on a temporary basis. On Wednesday 29th February 2012, Stuart Pearce took charge for the first time as England manager on an interim basis in the International friendly between England v Holland. How would Stuart Pearce cope in his debut and would he give an impressive enough audition to perhaps be given the job full time? WinkBall video reporters Zoe and Daniel were down at Wembley Stadium to speak to England fans and find out who their choice for the England manager would be and why? With Capello leaving the England job, the reasons that surrounded his departure was the issue of the England captaincy. With John Terry facing court action over his alleged racist remarks in a football match for his domestic team Chelsea, the F.A. took the action of stripping Terry of the England captaincy without Capello’s consent which led the manager to resign from his managerial post. The England captaincy has now then become another topic of discussion alongside who will be the next England manager. Once again, many candidates have been touted as possible candidates for the captaincy on a full time basis; names included the more experienced and older Steven Gerrard of Liverpool and Tottenham’s Scott Parker, and Manchester City’s Joe Hart, who would be an interesting choice considering his young age. Wednesday morning it was announced that Scott Parker would be the captain for the evening’s game against Holland, but still wasn’t a permanent choice long term. WinkBall reporters were also asking England fans at the England Netherlands game who their choice for the England captaincy would be? What did they think of Scott Parker as England captain for tonight’s game and would he be a good choice for the captaincy long-term? Who else would be their choice and why? Would it be Steven Gerrard, Joe Hart or perhaps someone like Wayne Rooney? Despite the game starting with a rather uneventful first half, the second half soon became lively for spectators with Holland going 0-2 ahead in a matter of minutes thanks to goals from Arjen Robben and striker Klass Jan Huntelaar. However England showed fight and spirit and managed to pull back the deficit with defender Gary Cahill and winger Ashley Young scoring in the space of five minutes. However Arjen Robben proved to be a menace once again for England as he went on to score a last minute winner to make it 2-3 to the Netherlands. Although ending in defeat, England showed fighting spirit that many England fans would have appreciated. A combative display from captain Scott Parker gave whoever the next England manager will be, much to think about in the decision of whether or not to make him full time captain. Fans spoke to WinkBall reporters after their game giving their verdict of the match and who out of the team performed well.
