Comprising of classic rock songs from the 1980s, smash hit musical ‘Rock of Ages’ has wowed audiences with its feel good music, taking the West End by storm. One of the many new musicals that came out of 2011, ‘Rock of Age’s’ energy and vibrancy has earned the show 5 whatsonstage.com nominations including ‘Best New Musical’. Featuring songs from legendary rock acts Whitesnake, Journey, Poison and Styx, ‘Rock of Ages’ tells the story of love and romance between aspiring rocker Drew Boley and waitress Sherrie Christian played against the backdrop of classic rock tunes the likes of “Waiting for a Girl Like You”, “I Want to Know What Love is” and “Don’t Stop Believin’”. With a good dose of sex, drugs and rock and roll thrown into the mix, can Drew and Sherrie’s love survive as Drew pursues the rock star life whilst having to fight off the advances of rock and love rival Stacee Jaxx. Since it’s opening in the West End in August 2011, comedian Justin Lee Collins and former X-Factor winner Shayne Ward have both earned critical acclaim playing the roles of Dennis DuPree and Stacee Jaxx in the show. Their performances have impressed critics and alongside the lead performances of Oliver Tompsett as Drew and Natalie Andreou as Sherrie, ‘Rock of Ages’ is certain to keep audiences coming back for more. On Thursday 19th January 2012, WinkBall video reporters Tom and Dean headed down to London’s Shaftesbury Theatre where fans came in their numbers to see what promised to be another fantastic performance of ‘Rock of Ages’. Speaking to the fans, reporters were asking them what excited them about the show and what they were expecting from the musical? With this being new territory for comedian Justin Lee Collins, fans were also asked whether they thought he could make the successful transition from comedy to musical theatre?
